Principal's Message
January 2025
Hello Hoover Community,
Hoover is a special place that is unlike any other high school in Fresno Unified. We are unique with a very diverse student population. We have a wide variety of special education programs, advanced placement / dual enrollment programs, CTE programs, and tons of opportunities for student involvement. Hoover is known for the care that we have for one another and our community. This care for the Hoover community is seen through the fact that a large number of Hoover staff were former Hoover students themselves. This commitment to Hoover reinforces the idea that "once you're a Pate, you're always a Pate!".
In the past year and a half Hoover has grown with an improved culture, improved attendance, and most importantly we are staking strides to improve academic outcomes. The WASC Accreditation process last year, which we passed with a full 6-year accreditation through 2030, has led us to an instructional focus on literacy. We have agreed as a site to use the evidence-based instructional strategies of feedback and reciprocal teaching to help us move the work forward. All teachers this year are being trained in PLC+ which allows teachers to grow and learn from one another to improve student outcomes for all. Hoover's admin team is very present in halls and in classrooms in support of student learning and student data is a part of all conversations. Hoover's counseling team is top notch in their work to ensure that students are set up for future success. Lastly, Hoover is supported by a very strong Classified Staff team made up of caring Special Education Paraprofessionals, an efficient office team, hardworking custodial crew, and responsive Campus Safety team.
As principal at Hoover, it is my sole job to ensure that students, parents, teachers, and staff have what they need to be successful. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me so that I can be of service to you. My two primary core values are "love" and "excellence". My goal is to serve as caretake of Hoover each day with those two values at the center of the work that I do.
Thanks for allowing me to serve alongside you in the very important work of educating the future leaders of Fresno and the country.
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Curtis
