Hoover offers interscholastic athletics in 29 programs!  There are 3 seasons of sport, Fall, Winter and Spring.  There is an overlap between each season, but it does not prevent students from participating in 2 or more sports throughout the year.

• Fall – Football (V,JV,F), Girls Volleyball (V,JV,F), Boys & Girls Cross Country (V & JV), Girls Tennis (V & JV), Girls Golf (V), Boys & Girls Water Polo (V & JV), Co-Ed Unified Soccer (V) and Sideline Pep and Cheer
• Winter – Boys & Girls Basketball (V,JV,F), Boys & Girls Soccer (V,JV,F), Wrestling (V & JV), and Sideline Pep and Cheer
• Spring – Baseball (V,JV,F), Softball (V,JV,F), Boys & Girls Track & Field (V & JV), Boys Golf (V & JV), Boys Tennis (V & JV), Girls Lacrosse (V), Boys Volleyball (V,JV,F), Boys and Girls Swimming & Diving (V & JV), Girls Badminton (V & JV), Girls Competitive Sport Cheer (V), Co-Ed Unified Basketball (V) and Co-Ed Unified Track & Field.

Basic Eligibility Criteria: Athletes must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA at each quarter (we recommend 2.5 or higher), taking at least 5 classes and passing 4. 
 

Full Criteria: Eligibility is determined each quarter and is made official by the Athletic Director only.

• Fall Sports
  • Fall sports initial eligibility is based on the 4^th quarter grades (including summer school) from the previous school year and if needed the 3^rd quarter grades of the previous school year.
  • Fall sports in-season eligibility is based on the 1^st quarter grades of the current school year and if needed the 4^th quarter grades (including summer school) from the previous school year.
• Winter Sports
  • Winter sports initial eligibility is based on the 1^st quarter grades of the current school year and if needed the 4^th quarter grades (including summer school) from the previous school year.
  • Winter sports in-season eligibility is based on the 2^nd quarter grades of the current school year and if needed the 1^st quarter grades of the current school year.
• Spring Sports
  • Spring sports initial eligibility is based on the 2^nd quarter grades of the current school year and if needed the 1^st quarter grades of the current school year.
  • Spring sports in-season eligibility is based on the 3^rd quarter grades of the current school year and if needed the 2^nd quarter grades of the current school year.
     
• Student athletes must be enrolled in 5 classes and passing at least 4 classes each quarter.  Failure to do so results in the student being INELIGIBLE.
• Minimum GPA is 2.0. 
  • Students with a 2.0 or higher are ELIGIBLE.
  • Students below a 2.0 for a quarter, but a 2.0 or higher in previous quarter will be placed on PROBATION for 1 quarter.  They can still practice and participate in games.
  • Students below a 2.0 for 2 consecutive quarters are INELIGIBLE.
• Summer School grades can have a positive effect on 4^th quarter grades only.  If a Summer School class is taken for a class taken in the Spring Semester the grade can be replaced if it helps the GPA.  If a class from a previous semester is taken in Summer School, it can be added to the 4^th quarter if it will help the overall GPA only.
• Eligibility takes effect the Thursday after the end of the quarter.  No exceptions.
• Incoming Freshman for Fall sports eligibility is based on 4^th quarter grades only.
   
• ELIGIBLE – passing 4 classes with a 2.0 or higher GPA
• PROBATION – below a 2.0, passing at least 4 classes
• INELIGIBLE – below a 2.0, not passing at least 4 classes

All students who transfer to Hoover High School must do the following if they want to play any sports:

• Meet with the Athletic Director once you are enrolled at Hoover.
• The Athletic Director will give you a CIF Transfer Packet and go over how to complete.  They are multiple reasons for transferring schools and multiple possibilities of eligibility.
• Some possible transfers are based on Full Family Move, academic reasons, safety reasons and other potential hardships.  These are all found on the Central Section CIF webpage:  https://d2o2figo6ddd0g.cloudfront.net/e/s/c2i0oh3ci7fbjz/200_Series.pd
• Parent/guardian will complete all necessary information and return to the Athletic Director.
• Hoover Athletic Director will get all necessary signatures from Hoover and former school(s).
• Once all signatures are collected, the form is sent the Central Section CIF.  The Section Commissioner will make all decisions regarding eligibility.
• Once a decision is made, the Commissioner will notify the family, and both schools.

For ejections other than fighting/assaultive behavior/gross unsportsmanlike conduct: 

• Players:
  • First Ejection = 1 game suspension
  • Second Ejection = 3 game suspension
  • Third Ejection = Suspended for the remainder of the season 
• Coaches: 
  • First Ejection = 1 to 3 game suspension
  • Second Ejection = 6 game suspension
  • Third Ejection = Suspended for the remainder of the season

• Spectators: 
  • First Ejection = 3 game suspension
  • Second Ejection = Suspended for the remainder of the season

For ejections for fighting/assaultive behavior/gross unsportsmanlike conduct:

• Players:
  • First Ejection = 3 to 6 game suspension
  • Second Ejection = Suspended for the remainder of the season 
• Coaches: 
  • First Ejection = Suspended for the remainder of the season

• Spectators: 
  • Any spectator that assaults a game or event official shall be permanently banned from interscholastic athletics
