I hope you were able to enjoy the longer weekend in celebration of Labor Day. Because there is no school on Monday this week, we also have no early release. School gets out at 3:15 every day, and as usual it starts at 8:30 each day. We greatly appreciate your support in helping make sure your child is at school every day on time. We are noticing many students getting dropped off or walking up right at 8:30. 8:30 is the tardy bell, when instruction begins in each class, so if they are arriving right at 8:30 they are late. Please help encourage them to get to school just a few minutes earlier, which also gives them time to grab breakfast on their way. Last week we started a campus-wide incentive program for classes who are 100% on time, and beginning this week the consequence system comes in play. We don’t want any student missing even a few minutes of instruction, and your support is much appreciated.
September marks the beginning of suicide prevention and awareness efforts on our campus. On September 16, 2016 Assembly Bill 2246 was passed and requires school districts to adopt a policy on suicide prevention. Unfortunately, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death of young persons aged 15-24. In recognition of Suicide Prevention Week, our social/emotional team at Hoover will be providing educational opportunities and resources to our students throughout the month of September and early October. We also want to ensure that our Hoover parents also have resources so you may continue to help your student thrive. You can find these resources on our Hoover website, under the parents tab. Please click on Social/Emotional Resources. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact our Clinical School Social Worker, Mrs. Stoutemire at 451-4059.
We are already coming up on our first Progress Report of the school year. Classes are busy, with lots of great projects and learning happening. We had a wonderful ParticiPATE week and Club Rush last week, and thank you to all of you who braved the heat and came out for our Back to School Night last Monday. Please feel free to contact us at any time, thank you for your support, and have a great week.
